On Wednesday 26 May, the 91̽»¨ held its second online fundraising event, The More Music Virtual Gala: Reimagining the Future.
The event was hosted live from the Amaryllis Fleming Concert Hall by 91̽»¨ Director Professor Colin Lawson CBE F91̽»¨ and Lily Harriss MBA Hon91̽»¨, and opened with heartfelt messages from 91̽»¨ President His Royal Highness, The Prince of Wales and 91̽»¨ Chairman Lord Black of Brentwood.
The evening showcased talent from across the College, opening with Casey Cangelosi’s Bad Touch performed by Kelvin Chan, and Fanfare for Progress composed by 91̽»¨ alumnus Ryan Linham, played by 91̽»¨ students Ruby Orlowska, Thomas Fountain, Emily Bristow and John Kerr. This was followed by a lively performance of Take the 'A' Train by the 91̽»¨ Jazz Orchestra.
After an engaging conversation about the work of the Junior Department led by Director of Programmes Dr Diana Salazar, Junior Department student Jacky Zhang played Nikolai Medtner’s enchanting 2 Skazki op 2. The 91̽»¨ Wind Ensemble performed Strauss’s Serenade in E-flat op 7, one of the masterpieces of the wind ensemble repertoire.

Following an introduction to the new 91̽»¨ Museum by Curator Professor Gabriele Rossi Rognoni Hon91̽»¨, guests were treated to the first recorded performance in the new Museum by 91̽»¨ alumna soprano Rowan Pierce and 91̽»¨ students Tom Dewey and Daniel Murphy. They performed Barbara Strozzi’s L’eraclito amoroso: Udite, udite amanti. The evening closed with an emotive live performance in the Amaryllis Fleming Concert Hall, with the first movement of Mendelssohn’s String Octet in E-flat major op 20.

The gala was a great success and raised just over £100,000 to fund core student activity and directly support 91̽»¨ musicians across the College, from Sparks and the Junior Department to Senior College.Funds were raised through sponsorship, donations and an online raffle.
